A downloadable prototype for Windows

Plans:

Core:

Unfortunately due to the nature of prototyping it's hard to predict the final form of the game. However, currently I'm thinking of shaping the project towards a fun and casual RTS that plays out in one solar system where the player can send units to any position in said system. Primarily focusing on combat but not limited to. I'll try to slide in some 4x elements here and there. 

Unit Behavior:

Besides the typical behavior of doing exactly what they're told, units also respond to different situations automatically. They can be configured for e.g. to do absolutely nothing, sit still and not fire a shot. Or they can be configured to seek out targets and attack them. I plan on trying to make a robust unit behavior system that allows units to almost function automatically. Making the player able to fight on multiple fronts if they really wanted.

Unit modules:

All units are fully modular, meaning that for e.g. a ships engines can be replaced with a different type of engine that is more efficient or an engine that sacrifices its rotation speed for movement speed. Or you could change a ships weapons for precise long range weapons or short range weapons that might be inaccurate but deal a lot of damage.

Multiplayer:

Unfortunately due to my lack of experience I doubt that multiplayer will ever be implemented. 


Controls:

Camera Movement:

  • Hold MMB to pan
  • Scroll wheel to zoom in/out

Unit Selection/Actions:

  • LMB to select unit
  • Hold LMB to box select
  • RMB to select target
  • Hold RMB to box select multiple targets
  • RMB (on empty space) to set unit destination
  • Holding Left Shift while performing any of these actions will Add: selection/target/waypoint
  • RMB (on a unit/structure) to command unit/units to dock with the unit/structure

Gameplay:

  • + to increase game speed
  • - to decrease game speed
  • Spacebar to pause game
  • Tab to change team (Team 1 [Red] currently has no AI)
